A Patriotic Finish from Patchwork Sampler Blog

This red, white, and blue quilt is another project from “the basket” I have been clearing out this month. It is just a coincidence that it is a holiday quilt that qualified for the May challenge. This project was abandoned who knows how long ago with only quilting the borders and binding left to finish. That didn’t take long and now I have a patriotic quilt to display for the summer.

I don’t know the name of this pattern, and a Google search did not turn up anything. I thought it was from one of Kim Brackett’s ...

Naman from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have completed my Positivity 2.0 Quilt. I have named him Naman. It is a Sanskrit word meaning salutations.

The end of life is generally marked with grief, a sense of loss and even confusion. Although Naman is intended as a comfort quilt for the terminally ill and their family, it is my hope that it will be a salutation to the life lived and memories made.

Good use of the Picnic Table :-)

Quilt Reveal: October Holiday House from High Road Quilter

It's not October yet, but here October Holiday House is way ahead of the pack, ready for the new year.

I told you the story of when I bought the kit a couple of weeks ago.

I started making the kit at the end of October 2021. I have been trying to make one small quilt a month. Using the kit which has marinated long enough was a good option.

I put this quilt away to get ready for the October birthday gathering, and kept it away for the week we met with the customers.

I brought it out ...

Spool Star Holiday wreath from I Patch and Quilt

Do you remember the small wallhanging that I made using my foundation paper pieced Spool Star block? Playing with the Spool Star block is turning out very inspiring. So many ideas!

Let’s look at the first new layout, a Holiday wreath!

The traditional red and green, with some vintage-style blue and pink.

This block works so well with solids or blender-type fabrics, which I have a lot of….

My Turn for 12 Days of Christmas in July Blog Hop from High Road Quilter

Today is my day to post for the 12 Days of Christmas in July Blog Hop! Welcome to my blog!

After I told Sarah I would show you my Christmas quilts, I remembered that I have already posted my Christmas quilts in December so I will direct you to look at that post. In this post, I am showing you some quilts which were not shown on that post.

In 2018, I made small gifts for every member of my family, so if you are looking for small gift ideas, you might want to browse them.

All of these quilts ...

New pattern: Buffalo Check Table Topper from Carried Away Quilting

Last year you all shared a lot of love for my new buffalo check patterns, which included two bed quilts (Buffalo Check Winter and Buffalo Check Autumn) and the Buffalo Check Christmas Runner. I also heard from some of you that while you like table runners, you really prefer table toppers! Well, I aim to please, so I came up with a new pattern, my Buffalo Check Table Topper, which is really two patterns in one. Yes, this pattern will provide instructions to make either a Halloween or Christmas table topper for your home!

The Buffalo Check Table Topper finishes ...

Star Crossed Pines: A finished quilt featuring Christmas Morning from Carried Away Quilting

Spring is slowly arriving in Minnesota. It’s a joy to hear the robins tweeting in the evergreen outside my window. I am so excited for my grass to green, the perennials to peek out from the soil, and the trees to bud. But we quilters also know that in a month or two, several wonderful Christmas and winter fabric collections will be hitting the stores, and we have to be prepared! As crazy as it sounds, now is the time to plan any quilts you may want to have completed by next Christmas. I hope that my Star Crossed ...

Star Crossed Pines shines with Christmas Morning from Carried Away Quilting

How many of you talk to yourself when sewing?  Do you praise the pretty fabric you are pressing? Do you let out hoots of laughter or even exclaim, “YES!” when a block comes together just right? Do you repeat the cutting instructions to yourself aloud to make sure you’re slicing in the correct spot?

I’m not embarrassed to say that I do all of those things. (I also chew myself out when I make a mistake, but let’s not dwell on that.) This past weekend I was chatting up a storm to my own best sewing friend ...

Star Watch: a Christmas quilt featuring Hearthside Holiday from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! Last October I shared sneak peek photos of another winter quilt I was working on, a Christmas version of my Star Watch pattern featuring fabrics by Deb Strain (Moda). This festive quilt is now complete, and yesterday I took several photos to share with you.

My daughter was home this weekend and commented that she hoped this quilt was for her, as she really loved the striking black and red, the buffalo checks and plaids, and the deer head motif. The traditional holiday elements have a slightly contemporary feeling thanks to that color combination, we decided. Sadly ...

Christmas quilts out early this year from Carried Away Quilting

This weekend I was seized by the desire to decorate for the holidays. I don’t usually pull out my Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving. But this year is different. We’ve had three snowfalls since the middle of October. Our extended families won’t be gathering for Thanksgiving due to the pandemic. I rarely leave the house anymore. I’m not whining or complaining, I’m just deciding to make the best of it and give myself a warm hug. As one of my Instagram friends said, “Bring on the merry!” That’s exactly what I decided to do all ...

Christmas Economy Blocks from Carried Away Quilting

I got a little sidetracked this weekend, quilting friends.  I had fully intended to organize the scrap baskets and shelves in my fabric closet. Unfortunately, I was easily distracted by a bin of festive Sweetwater Christmas prints I had saved from past projects. So instead of organizing, I found myself cutting and sewing. Before I knew it, I had made four holiday Economy Blocks to share with you.

Just in case you missed my most recent posts, I’ve provided a detailed tutorial on making these 4 1/2” Economy Blocks from your stash. Let me warn you though, you ...

Star Watch: a Christmas version from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! I hope you all are well and finding time to sew to your heart’s content. Yesterday I spent some happy hours in my sewing room and I want to share my progress with you. I’m sewing a Christmas version of my Start Watch jelly roll pattern.

Since last winter, I’ve been hoarding a jelly roll and some coordinating yardage from Deb Strain’s Hearthside Holiday fabric. I love the deep Christmas red, striking black and cool gray that Deb utilizes in her winter collections. These awesome color choices are fabulous when combined with the ...

Sweetly Scalloped for Christmas from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! I have another Christmas quilt to share with you today. This one is for my mom, and it’s based on my Sweetly Scalloped pattern. If I weren’t concerned about landing on the naughty list, I’d be tempted to keep it for myself. I love how it turned out, but more importantly, I know my mom will love it too.

Mom recently moved into a pretty apartment for the winter months, where she’ll have access to fun activities and lots of friendly people. We had a great time selecting new furniture for her winter ...

Christmas bed runner welcomes overnight guests from Carried Away Quilting

My Christmas bed runner is finished! I did a “decorating test-run” to see how it will look in our guest room with a few other holiday items, and I think the end result is warm and inviting. Now I’m torn, though. Do I put the Christmas décor away until after Thanksgiving, or leave it out and watch my husband shake his head and roll his eyes?

As I mentioned in my post a few weeks ago, a bed runner is a great solution if you don’t have time to make a full quilt, but you want to dress ...

Christmas bed runner with Star Crossed Pines from Carried Away Quilting

Just the other day I was walking by our guest room and thought, “I wish I had a Christmas quilt to lay across the foot of the guest bed this winter.” You may be surprised to hear that I don’t have enough Christmas quilts for every bed and sofa in the house, but I don’t! Since Christmas is less than two months away (eeek!), I decided to make a bed runner instead. Here’s my first block.

Do you recognize the block? It’s from my Star Crossed Pines quilt pattern!  Doesn’t it have a cozy, homespun ...

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving from Clever Chameleon

Happy Thanksgiving table top quilt with turkey at Clever Chameleon

Wishing all my Canadian friends a wonderful holiday for the coming weekend

Australians as a whole don’t do Thanksgiving, although many traditional churches do have a low-key harvest thanksgiving service in our late summer or early autumn. But I like thankfulness, and since it’s likely impossible to indulge in too much thankfulness, the Chameleon and I are getting on the Canadian bandwagon today. Happy Thanksgiving for the weekend and Monday, Canadian friends and everyone!

It wasn’t until last year that I became aware that Canada has its own Thanksgiving Day, separate from the American occasion. And then ...

Modern Fat Quarter Friendly Stash Busting Quilt Pattern Ribbon Candy from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

With 24 fat quarters, our new fat quarter friendly pattern Ribbon Candy (part of the Stashin’ with Stephanie series) will definitely make a dent in your stash!

This quilt has a little bit of everything. We are strip piecing, sewing at an angle to create a pattern that looks complicated without too much fuss and no templates.

For this quilt I used Alison Glass Holiday, and I love how it kind of looks like candy cane stripes twisting around. But you could certainly use anything in your stash to make this happen. Just make sure you pick a fabulous neutral ...
